Planning Permission and Building Regulations are both normally
required.
In certain instances, where the swimming pool enclosure
is a minimum of 5 metres from the house and a maximum of
4 metres to the ridge, Planning Permission may not be a
requirement, unless the house is a listed building or in
a conservation area. Never take this as fact. Always
obtain a written ruling from your local planning office,
for evidence in the future of permitted development. Another
factor that will be taken into account, is the percentage
of garden area being taken up by the project , or possibly,
previous extensions to the property.
For example, one client agreed to demolish a garage to satisfy
planners, where an existing outdoor swimming pool was being
enclosed. His garden was of a moderate size and the new
enclosure would not have left sufficient garden area.
OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOLS
Planning permission is not normally required, unless the
